A pre-christmas meander

It was a few days before Christmas when we went for a mid morning breakfast and then for a wonder along one of our favourite streets in Melbourne, Rathdowne Street in North Carlton.

Last Sunday 26th October 2025, friends and family gathered in his ‘loft’ studio to say goodbye to Rod McNicol; I have uploaded my words (expanded and edited) — click here

We now live in Melbourne and have driven over the Hoddle Bridge many times travelling to the southern suburbs or on returning from a visit. The view above is taken from the southern side — now Punt Road. I have uploaded a short essay on this Jack Cato early 1940s photograph that is another from our collection. Click here for the essay.

On Thursday 18th September 2025, we visited Rod McNicol in his wonderful loft studio in Fitzroy. His studio was a place to behold.

A Saturday meander through streets in a southern quarter of Collingwood. As always, ensure you eat first and have a good coffee. A visit to Falco Bakery on Langridge St; good coffee, pastries and a loaf of bread for later. Life is good!

We had a sneak preview yesterday of the superbly curated and designed photography exhibition at Heide (Melbourne) of a large selection of photographs by Man Ray and Max Dupain.

The exhibition staged by the Centre for Contemporary Photography (Melbourne) at the RMIT Gallery was a pleasure to visit and it was great to see so many people there on a quiet Saturday afternoon.

Today we ventured out into the rain (it did stop for most of the walk) and enjoyed the views, birds and sounds of the water along several kilometres of the nearby section of the Darebin Creek Tail.
