Uploaded pages on John Thomson (born 14 June 1837–died 29 September 1921).
This includes a slightly revised essay I wrote for an Peranakan Museum Singapore exhibition and publication in 2028/2019. My emphasis was on John Thomson’s experiences in Singapore and how this shaped his later photography career. Click here
I have uploaded a set of pages honouring Leo Haks, a collector and researcher of Indonesian photography. It was his collection that the National Gallery of Australia purchased as the basis for new collections and subsequently the exhibition: Garden of the East. We had a sneak preview yesterday of the superbly curated and designed photography exhibition at Heide (Melbourne) of a large selection of photographs by Man Ray and Max Dupain.
The exhibition staged by the Centre for Contemporary Photography (Melbourne) at the RMIT Gallery was a pleasure to visit and it was great to see so many people there on a quiet Saturday afternoon.
