Gibson’s Auction August 2024

The treat of auction exhibitions

Since moving to Melbourne Paul and I have visited exhibitions of photography and other media. The list includes:

visits to Castlemaine, Ballarat, Bendigo, the Centre for Contemporary Photography (now closed at Fitzroy), The Museum of Australian Photography (MAPH’s), The Lyon Housemuseum, The Shrine, Tarrawarra Art Museum, State Library of Victoria, the University of Melbourne’s Visual Cultures Resource Centre (VCRC) where we have donated a large collection of Asian photographs, the Hellenic Museum, The Science Museum (Williamstown), William Mora Gallery, ARC ONE, the late Rosemary Laing’s moving last exhibit Swansongs at Tolarno Gallery – and numerous visits to the National Gallery of Victoria.

I intend to visit auction house exhibitions more often as this is a chance to see works that may not make it into public exhibitions. I have written a first piece on this with our visit to Gibsoin’s Auctions in August 2024. Click here.

and,

if anyone would like me to preview and comment on a work in an auction that’s coming up, that is you could be thinking about a purchase and not be able to see the work yourself, please make contact as we are more than happy to assist.
