CECIL. W. BOSTOCK 1884-1939

1884: Born England

1888: Family moves to New South Wales (Father a bookbinder)

1892: Father dies/   Apprenticed as engineer in Waverley Tramway Workshop

1901: Leaves home (after conflicts with mother over wanting to be an artist)/  Career as commercial artist.

1915: (circa) Takes up photography

1916: (circa): Secretary Photographic Society of New South Wales

1916 (circa): Foundation member of Sydney Camera Circle

1916 - (1927?): Circle meets meets at Bostock's commercial artist' studio

1917: Publishes A Portfolio Of Art Photographs, 25 sets containing 10 small photos

1917 - 1918: Enlisted WWI - serves in France and Germany

1919-1920: England - meets future wife.

1919: Cazneaux works from Bostock's studio (after leaving Freeman's)

1919: Exhibition of watercolours in England.

1920: Discharged from Army in Sydney. Marries

1920: One-man exhibition watercolours of war scenes Adelphi Gallery

1920 (Feb): Professional Photographer - including advertising and industrial illustration

1924, 1926: Edits and designs catalogues for Cameragraphs: Australian Salon Exhibitions

1927: (circa) Fashion photography for David Jones (department store, Sydney).

1927: (circa) Photographs David Jones' window displays - Harry Bhindof's fashion tableaux.

1929: Commissioned to record new Elizabeth St store for David Jones.

1930-34: Max Dupain starts as apprentice for Bostock.

1934: Largely responsible for the illustrations in The Book Of The Anzac Memorial NSW

1938: Instumental in forming 'The Contemporary Camera Groupe'

1938: (December) One and only exhibition of The Groupe - Bostock designs catalogue

1939: Dies of cancer
