Dear Helen,
RE: IN DREAMS, MERVYN BISHOP, THIRTY YEARS OF PHOTOGRAPHY,1960-1990
Following your recent conversation with Denise Robinson, information regarding the above exhibition follows.
The Australian Centre for Photography has organised a major survey of the press photography of Mervyn Bishop. The exhibition has been curated by Tracey Moffatt and covers the period from 1960 - 1990.
The exhibition largely consists of b+w prints from Mervyn Bishop's vast body of work as press photographer with the Sydney Morning Herald and as staff photographer at the Department of Aboriginal Affairs, as well as unpublished work. The exhibition brings to light an important collection of documentary images of significant individuals, events and conditions.
A high quality monograph featuring an interview with Mervyn Bishop by Tracey Moffatt accompanies the exhibition. It includes over 100 images. The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission has generously provided major sponsorship for both the book and exhibition.
The exhibition has been organised as a touring project of The Australian Centre for Photography. I have enclosed a current touring schedule for your information. It becomes available again in early 1993.
Additional information regarding the exhibition, including tour costs, is listed in Tour Specifications. The list of works can be referenced against the publication. Publicity to date has also been included.
Thank you for your interest, Yours faithfully,
Bronwyn Clark-Coolee
