It was a&nbsp;modest number of visitors but the flow was constant with people stopping to enjoy each&nbsp;image.<\/p>\n<p>Obviously being the former <span class=\"caps\">NGA<\/span> curator I&nbsp;was familiar with these works, but seeing the pairing of Dupain and Adams through this exhibition was very enjoyable. The exhibition was curated by Anne O\u2019Hehir, the curator of photography at&nbsp;<span class=\"caps\">NGA<\/span>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"body-inner\">\n<div class=\"page-wrap\">\n<div class=\"page-non-footer \">\n<div class=\"page-main\">\n<div class=\"page-main__inner\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<article>\n<div class=\"page-body\">\n<section class=\"page-section about-section text-col-default\">\n<div class=\"page-section__inner\">\n<div class=\"content-block block-richtext textblock-align\">\n<div class=\"richtext default\">\n<p data-block-key=\"khnek\">To quote from the <a href=\"https:\/\/nga.gov.au\/exhibitions\/max-dupain-and-ansel-adams-in-search-of-perfection\/\">NGA\u2019s website:<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-block-key=\"khnek\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em>An Australian photographer and an American, side by side. Max Dupain (1911\u20131992) and Ansel Adams (1902\u20131984) shaped the visual imaginations of their respective nations through the lens of modernist photography. Though working on opposite sides of the Pacific, the two shared a&nbsp;commitment to creating timeless, heroic images remarkable for their formal clarity, tonal precision and exploration of the expressive potential of light. The result was some of the most emblematic photographs of the 20th century\u2014making Dupain and Adams among the few photographers in history to become household names in their home countries.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-block-key=\"flpcj\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em>Max Dupain and Ansel Adams: in search of perfection places Dupain\u2019s architectural photographs and Adams\u2019 iconic landscapes of the American West in conversation for the first time. Both photographers sought to define national identity through image-making\u2014Dupain capturing a&nbsp;newly modern Australia, Adams elevating the American wilderness into a&nbsp;site of the spiritual sublime.The exhibition introduces the work of these two luminaries by showing the origins and development of their photographic practices. It then focuses on their mature work, bringing together photographs that share an uncannily similar approach to image-making. Both men were firmly committed to working in black and white, eschewing sentimentality for a&nbsp;shared visual language that prioritised structure, balance and control.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" data-block-key=\"flpcj\"><span style=\"color: #993300;\"><em>Adams\u2019 iconic photographs of the American West have been rarely shown in Australia.
