Photographers of Asia, Southeast Asia and the Pacific

Marjorie Doggett

Marjorie Doggett, born 1921, came to Singapore from England in 1947 with her husband Victor.

She took photographs of Singapore's buildings and architecture that were published in a 1957 publication 'Characters of Light'.

Almost nothing that she photographed remains today.

What she was well known for was her co-founding a voluntary service that rescued stray cats from Singapore's streets; the service later morphed into the SPCA.

Marjorie Doggett died in 2010 at her Toh Heights home of 33 years. She was 89.

There an online entry from the National Library of Signapore that contains information about the book and the illustrations - although all the images are tiny. Click here.

An important link to Marjorie Doggett is through The Photographic Heritage Foundation.

The foundation published Edward Stokes' beautiful book on Marjorie Doggett - click here.
